Bear Story Part 2

Ok, so just yesterday I noticed a friend on FaceBook mentioned having problems because her feet were sore from playing in the lazy river.

The bottom of the pool and river rubbed her feet raw.

Man!!!! My feet were killing me last week for about 3 days for the same thing.

So I started thinking about what in the world do you do for raw and sore feet.  So I mentioned this to my cutie friend bear and she said, "duhhhhhh.  Why don't you do what I was doing for the other cub bears last week????"

I said, "huh?  What is that?"  She said that she was putting Lavender on them all last week and that was why their feet didn't hurt at all.

Sheesh.... this bear is behind the game.

BTW, Cutie Bear Friend thought it was funny trying to kill me last week on this slide too.  I seriously wanted to cry! LMOO

Terra Shield..... Keep those dang mosquitoes away!!!

TerraShield a repellent blend

TerraShield provides protection from insect bites in a blend of 15 essential oils mixed in a base of fractionated coconut oil. Whereas DEET, a powerful and toxic chemical known to cause negative side-effects, doTERRA’s Terra Shield is all-natural. Unlike its synthetic counterparts (products containing DEET), its appealing citrus-based aroma makes it a pleasant experience to use. It is safe and effective for the whole family, even young children. In this day and age of Lyme Disease and West Nile Virus, the comfort this knowledge gives is priceless.

Concept
Everyone loves being outdoors, but nobody likes becoming lunch for pesky bugs that can ruin your picnic in the woods.  Even more dangerous than an itchy bite are the nasty pathogens insects can transmit.  To prevent the spread of insect-borne diseases such as Lyme Disease and West Nile Virus, experts recommend using an effective insect repellent.  The most common repellents are products that contain DEET, a powerful and potentially toxic chemical that is known to cause negative side-effects, including seizures.

doTERRA's TerraShield Repellent Blend is an all natural, super-concentrated insect repellent formulated with a proprietary blend of 15 Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils that have been scientifically shown to repel insects more effectively than other synthetic insect repellents.  The 15 essential oils in TerraShield are blended in a base of 100% pure fractionated coconut oil leaving your skin renewed after each application.  Just a small amo9unt of super-concentrated TerraShield will provide powerful coverage that lasts up to 6 hours per application.  TerraShield's fresh, light citrus smell is wonderfully invigorating and can be used safely by everyone in the family without worry.

Application Techniques
Apply Terra Shield straight from the bottle topically onto exposed areas. Where the mosquitoes are thick, apply thickly! Can be sprayed on from a spray bottle. Reapply every 4-6 hours as needed. This product may also be diffused into the air. Terra Shield will not stain clothing.

Supporting Documentation
“Green Alternatives to DEET-based Bug Sprays”   Christian Science Monitor, July 3, 2008.  This article mentions the effectiveness of using lemon, eucalyptus, coconut oil, and citronella.

Crazy mosquito bites!!!!

So here is how the story goes.....

Once upon a time there were a whole bunch of mosquitos biting all of these little bear cubs.  So Daddy Bear looked in the Essential Oils book and noticed that if you put Lavendar Essential Oil on the mosquito bites, the itching sensation would go away.

Every day and every night for 7 days and nights in a row, they came to me asking for Lavendar.  So Daddy Bear would put it on them and they would run off all happy with no more itches.  So it was fun because all the kids were happy even after they had mosquito bites.

Well big grumpy bear had freakin 63 mosquito bites and he itched them til they bled.  He couldn't get the itching to stop.

Well one of the bear cubs just laughed at the Daddy Bear and said "why don't you stick some Lavendar oil on???"  So Daddy Bear tried it out and his itching went away.

Our New Website & Deep Blue

We are so excited to finally have our own website up and running.  Please check it out here.

Let us take a few seconds to tell you how much we love DEEP BLUE .  We have tried this on ourselves for sore necks, sore muscles, hurt knees, my son's plantar fasciitis, our friend's herniated discs and it is amazing!  I know that we aren't supposed to say those types of things but we LOVE it!!!  Deep Blue is phenomenal because it has worked within minutes on every single person we've put it on.  We keep running out of Deep Blue because we've been sharing it with everyone.  Here's another great story.  My mother's hands have arthritis and really hurt her all of the time.  We massaged Deep Blue on her hands and within minutes the pain went away.  You should have seen her face.  She absolutely loved it and can't stop talking about it.  Anyways, you really should try it out.  Here's the information explaining what it is but put a drop on yourself and rub it in where you are feeling the pain. You'll love it.

Deep Blue

Deep Blue®
Soothing Blend

According to recent studies, more than half of us are sufferers of ongoing discomfort. Deep Blue® is dōTERRA®'s soothing solution to this challenge. Wintergreen, camphor, peppermint, blue tansy, blue chamomile, helichrysum and osmanthus work together to ease achy joints and sore muscles. Its effects are deep and penetrating with sustained results. Once gently rubbed into the area of discomfort, Deep Blue's cool therapeutic benefit will be felt almost immediately. For topical use only.

Apply topically with gentle massage directly to areas of discomfort and pain. This would include areas of inflammation, sprain, bruising, sore muscles, joints, arthritis, rheumatism, and carpel tunnel. Combine with warm compresses for best results. Relief for these issues can also be effective in a bath using 4-5 drops agitated in the water or using a dispersing agent.

Pain blends are very effective against headaches and migraines. Topical massage application to areas of origin and discomfort is effective. Follow up using cup and inhale, diffuse, or carry a tissue cup and compresses.

Use topically with light massage with a carrier (Fractionated Coconut Oil) for children’s growing pains.
Use for irritating insect stings. Apply often until swelling, pain, and irritation subside.  Apply gentle massage on sore and tender areas that have endured the trauma of surgery.  For athletes, gently massage major muscles before and after sporting events.

Suggested protocols:
Depending on the root cause of the muscle pain, one or a combination of the following, will help:
 •  Pain relief (analgesic): birch, Deep Blue, lavender, peppermint, or wintergreen.
•  Calm or relax tension: Lavender or marjoram.
•  Reduce inflammation: Birch, eucalyptus or myrrh with Citrus Bliss or an oil such as lemon.
•  Improve circulation: Lemon or rosemary.
For pain to specific muscles apply topically to the local area to achieve the best results. Coupling this with local massage will add to the relief. If there is general discomfort over many muscle areas (too much exercise or work) a full body massage, baths, or showers will be the best.
Other analgesic oils include: marjoram. Other anti-inflammatory oils are: frankincense, ginger, myrrh, and wintergreen.

Other info:
Chris - I have a friend with a 14 year old son.  Lately he has been sleeping much more, even more than the "typical teenage boy" and when he wakes up he is still tired.  His energy levels are way down.  He has also had some muscle ache, mostly legs so the doctors initially chalked it up growing pains. Has anyone come across anything like this?
Pat - I would recommend the Life Long Vitality.
Rob - Aroma Touch (the oil) is good for growing pains.  Deep Blue would be also. Use massage to the deep muscles when pain comes on. You also might want to put a diffuser in his room and turn it on about 1/2 hour before wake up time.  Try a few different oils to get the most effective for him, ie.  cassia and grapefruit, peppermint and lemon, Elevation, rosemary and peppermint.   All are very invigorating.
You could also take about 4-5 drops of peppermint and massage them into his neck and base of his skull for a minute or two when he wakes up.  This will get the blood flowing to the brain for sure.  Tell him that the tingling he is feeling is not "hot"... it is "cooling" and is not harmful.  This will wake anyone!!
We have used all these techniques with our 3 boys, 16,13,10 with great success.
Cindy - Teenagers do sleep a lot, and many experience growing pains. My 12 year old uses PastTense for the pains in his legs. If the pain is persistent, severe, or confined to one area (i.e. not equal in both legs) then please do have it checked out by a medical doctor. One of my kids had "growing pains" starting when he was four, that turned out to be a bone tumor. He suffered for 3 years with these "growing pains" in one leg before we discovered he had an osteoid osteoma--a benign tumor that is very painful. An osteoid osteoma can occur in any bone in the body. Luckily for us, his was in the tibia and easy to access; he was just fine after surgery.
Dana - My 12 year old daughter experiences growing pains too.  The Deep Blue works great.  Also, the Past Tense roll on.  Other oils to consider are birch and AromaTouch.  Roman chamomile works great on kids when they are stressed out and need to "turn off" so they can sleep.  Also, lavender baths are great too!  I can totally relate to having to get up in the middle of the night because my child wakes up complaining about growing pains.  I would keep a bottle of oil by my nightstand and apply the oil and within 10 minutes we would be back to sleep!  How valuable is that?  I don't know any mom that wouldn't want to have oils on hand.
